Content overview:

Design Thinking is a design methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. Through a structured Methodology, reinforced with the use of practical tools, a deep understanding of the needs of the user and an appreciation for the applications of technology we can improve how we see problems in order to design better solutions.

Ideation is an essential part of the design process and involves a creative process of generating, developing and communicating new ideas. Ideation covers all stages of the thought cycle from innovation to development, to implementation.

Critical Thinking is the skill of reasoning, evaluating, problem solving and decision making.  False beliefs can stifle creativity and innovation, confuse, and lead us to make poorer choices than we otherwise might. An Innovation Mindset requires a willingness to ask questions and challenge the status quo, an openness to change and a readiness to embrace an entrepreneurial skill set.

Managing our Unconscious Bias as team members or team leaders is fundamental to achieving trust and cohesion, which in turn informs a positive work culture.  Our biases impact our ability to make informed, rational and reasoned decisions.  If we want to create positive change in our work processes and workplace, we need to develop the skills to identify opportunities within the company. To achieve this goal, we must learn   to   recognise   negative   normalised   patterns   of   behaviour in ourselves and in our work culture.

The capacity to deliver ideas and create buy-in through engaging and inspiring pitches is becoming more and more important in our increasing transient and disengaged environment. Storytelling for buy-in in now recognised as a skill that facilitates workers at all levels in creating opportunities that have personal and professional benefits.

Having a capacity for skilled communication and collaboration allows us to deconstruct silos and develop projects and opportunities across abroad range of collaborators and stakeholders.

Managing our wellness and engagement with stress and failure has become fundamental to maintaining our mental health.  This requires self-awareness and recognition of our mindset in the face of challenges. Developing   Resilience and a capacity to adapt allows us to face challenges with a Growth Mindset, using the experience as a learning tool and a resource for overcoming future challenges. Critical reflection is an important feature of resilience, helping us to unpack experience, recognise our thinking   in challenging   spaces, identify the source of values and beliefs and how they impact our approach.

At present the majority of organisations are served by a transactional model of leadership while younger workers entering the workforce expect a transformational model of leadership. This unmatched expectation can lead to disengagement in the workplace. The ideal antidote is to create self-directed professionals who have the capacity lead, inspire and influence those around them through action, authenticity and trust. This form of leadership and teamwork facilitates the achievement of goals and objectives whether born of the instruction of others or based on proactivity and initiative.

How we carry ourselves, communicate and engage with others has the capacity to create new and meaningful opportunities from the outset.
